‘The Weekend’ Will Premiere At The Tribeca Film Festival in New York

The Weekend, a drama-thriller film created by Trino Motion Pictures, will premiere at New York City’s famous Tribeca Festival from June 5 to 16, 2024.

Daniel Emeke Oriahi directed the feature-length film, which was produced by Uche Okocha and executive produced by Babatunwa Aderinokun. It follows an orphan lady who visits her fiancé’s seemingly ideal family and discovers their deadly secrets.

The Weekend is the first Nigerian film production not co-produced with another country in the festival, the first Nollywood film to have its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival in 2024, and one of the final picks picked from a record-breaking 13,016 submissions.

Daniel Emeke Oriahi, the director of The Weekend, stated that it is an honor to launch the picture on a global platform and share the masterpiece with the international film community. “As the director of The Weekend, I am overjoyed that our film got picked for the 2024 Tribeca Festival, marking a significant milestone as the first independent Nigerian film chosen for this prestigious event. This production holds special value for me because it marks the end of my filming journey. My heartfelt thanks to Trino Motion Pictures and all colleagues for making this idea a reality. The prestigious Tribeca Festival, co-founded in 2001 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff, is known for celebrating all forms of storytelling, including film, television, music, audio storytelling, games, and immersive experiences. It champions emerging and established voices, curates innovative experiences, and introduces new ideas through premieres, exhibitions, conversations, and live performances.

Speaking about the film, Uche Okocha, the producer of The Weekend, stated, “In 2018, we embarked on the journey of creating a screenplay that would not only captivate a global audience with its familiar plot but also offer an authentic African perspective. Our unwavering commitment has resulted in a film that we are confident will significantly contribute to the world of cinema”.

The Weekend stars Nigerian and Ghanaian A-list actors such as Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Bucci Franklin, Meg Otanwa, James Gardiner, Gloria Anozie, and Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey. It was written by Egbemawei Dimiyei Sammy, Vanessa Kanu, and Freddie O. Anyaegbunam Jr. The Weekend will premiere in the Tribeca Midnight Section for late-night viewers; festival passes and screening tickets can be purchased at tribecafilm.com.
